September 2025: the narrator

The game's first major beat was casting: the studio behind Umurangi Generation brought in Lenval Brown, the narrator of the Disco Elysium special edition, for the debut trailer. Press coverage at the time compared the trailer's look to John Carpenter's The Thing, which is exactly the reaction the studio was going for.

June 2026: the demo and three trailers

Summer Game Fest week brought the free demo and three trailers, each pitched at a different audience: a Story Trailer from the Story Rich Showcase about the Nazi expedition's goals, a Green Games Showcase trailer covering Antarctica and its inhabitants, and a Frosty Fest trailer about Maori culture and the Kaitiaki.

August 2026: the influences post

The studio's own Siren Song post is the single most useful thing it has published about design. It credits Siren (Keiichiro Toyama, Japan Studio) for the sparse arctic environments and the escalating curse, and the director draws an explicit parallel between Siren's blue-glowing god-like being and what is under the ice in Penguin Colony.

29 September 2026: the launch announcement

This is the post that changed the release plan, and it is worth reading in full if you are planning a purchase.

  • Release moved from 8 October to 16 October 2026 at 10am PT. The studio's stated reasons: final tweaks, localisation to lock down, and time to get launch DLC ready.
  • The game remains part of LudoNarraCon, as an Upcoming Game.
  • The launch trailer premiered on 8 October, the original date, at the Convergence Showcase.
  • Two bundles: an extra 20% off when bought with Tenebris Somnia, which shares the 16 October date, and an extra 10% off when bought with 1000xRESIST.
  • A Deluxe Edition with the soundtrack (David Mason of Dredge, KOMMI and Rachel Khan) and over 2.5 hours of director's commentary.

What to watch next

The launch itself on 16 October is the next dated event, followed by whatever the Deluxe Edition's third item turns out to be. For the details of that edition, see editions and bundles; for what ships on the day, see release date and platforms.
