Editions and bundles
The Deluxe Edition adds the soundtrack by David Mason, KOMMI and Rachel Khan plus over 2.5 hours of director's commentary. Launch bundles take 20% off a pairing with Tenebris Somnia and 10% off a pairing with 1000xRESIST.
Penguin Colony launches with one paid edition above the base game and two bundle pairings, all of them announced in the studio's 29 September post. Pricing for the edition itself was still to be announced at that point.
The Deluxe Edition
The Deluxe Edition adds three things, two of which are locked and one of which slipped.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Soundtrack | Music by David Mason, who scored Dredge, plus KOMMI and Rachel Khan |
| Director's commentary | Over 2.5 hours from director Naphtali Faulkner |
| Third item | Tied to the Lenval Brown partnership; did not clear Steam approval in time |
The commentary length is the notable number here: two and a half hours of the director talking over a game that is itself carried by narration is an unusual amount of extra material for an indie launch.

The two launch bundles
Both bundles are limited-time launch offers, and both stack on top of whatever each game's own launch discount already is.
| Bundle | Pairing | Extra saving |
|---|---|---|
| Same-day horror pairing | Tenebris Somnia | 20% off both |
| Label pairing | 1000xRESIST | 10% off both |
Tenebris Somnia is the more thematically interesting partner: a 2D retro survival horror adventure with live-action cutscenes, shipping the same day. The studio framed the overlap as good news for retro horror fans rather than as competition.
1000xRESIST is the Fellow Traveller family bundle. Both games are described as thematically rich walking sims, which is a fair description of Penguin Colony's structure as well as its themes.
What to actually buy
- Playing on launch day and you like horror: the Tenebris Somnia bundle is the largest saving on offer.
- Already a Fellow Traveller player: the 1000xRESIST pairing is the cheaper way in.
- You want the commentary: the Deluxe Edition is the only way to get it.
- Undecided: play the free demo first. It has been available since 4 June 2026 and costs nothing.
Before you decide
Two things worth checking on the store page rather than here, because they were still moving when the studio posted: the price of both the base game and the Deluxe Edition, and whether the third Deluxe item has cleared approval by the time you read this. This page follows the 29 September announcement, and the store listing is the place to watch for both.
For what ships on launch day, see release date and platforms. For the state of the game itself, the demo guide covers what is playable today.
