Release date and platforms
Penguin Colony releases on 16 October 2026 at 10am PT for PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The date moved from 8 October, which the studio explained was about final tweaks, localisation and preparing launch DLC.
Penguin Colony launches on 16 October 2026 at 10am PT, on PC and Nintendo Switch 2. That is six days later than the date the studio originally announced, and the reason matters more than the delay itself.
The date, and why it moved
The game was originally slated for 8 October 2026, chosen to line up with LudoNarraCon. In its launch announcement on 29 September, the studio moved it to 16 October and gave three reasons: a few tweaks to make, localisation still to lock down, and time to get some launch DLC ready. It also said plainly that the game "is finished and runs great", so this is a scheduling decision rather than a development problem.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 8 Oct 2026 | Launch trailer premieres at the Convergence Showcase |
| 16 Oct 2026, 10am PT | Penguin Colony releases on PC and Nintendo Switch 2 |
The studio stayed part of LudoNarraCon, just as an Upcoming Game rather than a launch title.
Platforms
| Platform | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Windows) | Launch day | The version the demo is on |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Launch day | Confirmed on the publisher's page |
| Steam Deck | Playable in principle | Controller support is already in the demo |
The publisher's own game page lists PC and Switch 2, and the store page confirms Windows 10 as the PC floor.
Languages
The store supports six languages: English, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Maori. English is the only one marked for full audio support, which is significant for a game carried by narration.

What ships on the day
Nothing about the launch plan suggests a staggered rollout. The demo has been live since 4 June 2026, the Deluxe Edition and both bundles were confirmed a fortnight before release, and the launch trailer was already finished in time for the original date.
One detail worth noting: the studio said a third Deluxe Edition item, tied to its partnership with Lenval Brown, did not clear Steam approval in time for launch. That means a future addition rather than a missing feature.
What to do before launch
Play the demo. It is free, it covers the colony, the expedition trail and the base camp, and it is the only reliable way to know whether a slow observation game is for you. If the specs worry you, system requirements breaks down what the demo actually asks for, which is a lot less than the store page suggests.
